Project Promise’s Caterpillar Project Heal VI Youth in Aftermath of Hurricanes - RTPark Donation, Partnership Make Recovery Project Possible

December 21, 2017 - Project Promise, a St. Croix based non-profit organization, recognizing an immediate need to address trauma caused after two category five hurricanes, launched the Caterpillar Project Trauma in October 2017. With funds donated by the Research and Technology Park program (RTPark), the project introduced therapeutic techniques that included activities that promote resilience and wellness. Their holistic approach to healing focused on two central themes, "Exploring the Storm" and "Standing Strong." Read More

UVI Board of Trustees Approve University Online Degrees

December 19, 2017 - In special session on Dec. 19, the University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees approved UVI to offer online degrees. Multiple graduate and undergraduate degrees and their general education requirements will be available online in the territory, nationally and internationally. The approved online degrees will be offered starting in Spring 2018.Read More

UVI SON Class of 2017 Boasts 92 Percent Pass Rate for NCLEX-RN

December 14, 2017 - By graduation date, May 2017, 100 percent of the School of Nursing (SON) Class of 2017 was eligible to sit the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Of the 12 graduate students that took the examination, 11 of them were successful. This marked a 92 percent pass rate.Read More

2015 MMES Cohort Publishes Study in Major Scientific Journal

November 30, 2017 - The University of the Virgin Islands’ Masters of Marine and Environmental Studies (MMES) 2015 cohort has had their capstone manuscript published in the Public Library of Science (PLOS ONE). The manuscript, altered juvenile fish communities associated with invasive Halophila Stipulacea seagrass habitats in the U.S. Virgin Islands, is the culmination of research efforts by the 2015 cohorts. Two UVI Students Win National Awards at Prestigious Conference in Phoenix, Ariz.

November 13, 2017 - Of more than 1,800 participants, two UVI students were presented awards for their posters at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) held in Phoenix, Ariz., earlier this month. Deidre Lee, an undergraduate sophomore at UVI, was recognized for her poster in chemistry. Reichhold Center ‘Rebound – Rebuild – Renew’

October 16, 2017 - The Reichhold Center for the Arts, the Virgin Islands’ premier performing arts venue, has suffered major damages by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The Reichhold Center, a 39-year-old structure, lost the roof over the stage and suffered massive flooding to the lower levels. The stage, rigging, lighting and sound systems have all been compromised. Due to the Center’s current state, the 39th Season has been cancelled. Read More

UVI to Resume Classes on Oct. 9; Fall 2017 Semester Extended to Dec. 22

October 05, 2017 - Classes at the University of the Virgin Islands will resume on Monday, Oct. 9, on both campuses. UVI President David Hall announced at the Governor’s Oct. 4, press conference that UVI will offer every class that was originally available when the Fall 2017 semester started. UVI Employees Urged to Secure Work Areas Before Leaving for Labor Day Weekend

September 01, 2017 - The University of the Virgin Islands is monitoring Hurricane Irma, a category three storm with maximum sustained winds of 110 miles per hour. According to the National Hurricane Center’s 2 p.m. advisory, Hurricane Irma was located near latitude 18.5 North, longitude 37.8 West. Irma is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 miles per hour. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect for the U.S. Virgin Islands at this time. Read More

April 06, 2017 - The Prime Minister of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, arrived at the University of the Virgin Islands on the morning of April 1, bearing gifts: An announcement that the Danish government will establish a scholarship program for students from the University of the Virgin Islands to study at a Danish university for one semester. This scholarship program, which provides approximately $1 million Danish krone or $143,300 U.S. Dollars, will cover the costs of tuition and living expenses for up to 10 students each year, for an initial five-year period. Scholarship Donations for $250,000 Pledged to UVI

March 28, 2017 - Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars were pledged to the University of the Virgin Islands for scholarships in the name of Rachel Hamilton, a UVI alum and treasured employee of Territory East Asset Management, LLC (“TEAM Consulting”), a longtime St. Croix company and beneficiary of the Economic Development Commission (EDC) program. Hamilton passed away a couple of years ago, and in her honor the Rachel Hamilton TEAM Consulting Memorial Scholarship was presented on Friday, March 3, at the Employee Appreciation Reception at Research and Technology Park on St. Croix. March 16, 2017 - The University of the Virgin Islands will celebrate its 55th Emerald Jubilee throughout the month of March with multiple events and activities. Originally chartered by the Fourth Legislature on March 16, 1962, the then College of the Virgin Islands served the community as a publicly funded, co-educational, liberal arts institution. UVI Astronomers Granted Access to World’s Largest Telescopes

February 28, 2017 - Astronomers at the University of the Virgin Islands were granted access to two of the world’s largest telescopes in Chile and Hawaii by the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO).
