UVI extends academic reach to St. Maarten/St. Martin
UVI offers Business & Education Classes at the University of St. Martin

In the fall of 2015, the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) began offering undergraduate and graduate education and business courses to University of St. Martin (USM) students.  The agreement, titled UVI at USM, is part of a strategic effort to expand opportunities for more individuals to have access to a UVI program of study and degree.  UVI at USM offers our St. Martin/Maarten neighbors the same standard of quality education offered on all of UVI’s campuses, including St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John.

UVI and USM formed a relationship to benefit from each other’s strengths.  The relationship also provides USM students with a solid foundation to enter the workforce in St. Martin/Maarten, within the wider Caribbean or abroad.

Academic Structure
UVI at USM
provides classroom and office space for UVI to establish a physical presence in St. Martin/Maarten.  Two to three UVI professors travel regularly to St. Martin to teach courses offered on Fridays and Saturdays.  Additionally, a UVI professor resides on St. Martin to deliver instruction.  Other options include course offerings online.

Enrollment in UVI at USM
Students at USM may enroll in the program by completing the UVI admissions application process, which can be completed online.  Registration payments and submission of transcripts may also be conducted online.  The University of the Virgin Islands' Access and Enrollment Services office will register students for their chosen programs and courses.  Students will then have access to all of the resources available, including the Blackboard online learning management system and the UVI librariesClick to apply online

I graduated from USM with an Associate of Arts degree in Business Management. I wanted to acquire my bachelor’s degree, however I knew it would not be possible for me to leave the islands at that time. I decided I would have to wait a couple of years before I advance.  When I heard that USM was offering a bachelor program in collaboration with the University of the Virgin Islands, I was really happy because this gave me the opportunity to further my tertiary education without having to leave the island.  I was also more than motivated to enroll because I know that UVI is an accredited and well-known university.  Thus far, I am enjoying my classes and excited every day to learn something new.  Having classes online, completing assignments and submitting them online is a whole new experience for me.”

Course Offerings
In the fall 2015 semester, 25 UVI students were enrolled in courses hosted at our USM extension satellite campus.  St. Martin students may participate in a variety of courses in UVI’s School of Education and School of Business.
Academic Programs

After graduating from USM with an Associate of Arts degree, I applied to Monroe College and was accepted.  I was a little hesitant with enrolling in Monroe because I knew it would put a financial strain on my parents.  When I heard about the UVI at USM program, I was excited because this was the opportunity I have been waiting for.  I can stay on the island and work throughout the day and attend school at night, therefore I will not have to be dependent on my parents to assist with the tuition fees.  My experience in the program has been great.  I like the fact that the instructors assure us that we can contact them anytime we need assistance via telephone, messenger and even social media.  Making payments directly to UVI online, having access to UVI’s Blackboard and library, makes me feel like I am on an actual UVI campus.”
