 MISSION
VICCC Logo In harmony with the mission of the University of the Virgin Islands and its College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the Virgin Islands Caribbean Cultural Center collaboratively serves as a liaison designated to create a reservoir of resources and initiatives for faculty, students, administration, staff and the community to maintain and sustain access to materials that nurture, preserve, research, document, restore, promote, protect and respect Virgin Islands and Caribbean culture.

UVI VICCC Highlights:

  1. VICCC hosts VI Caribbean Culture Notes radio show. UVI CLASS Communication program institutes a premiere student-operated radio station, WUVI 97.3 FM "The Voice of the  University" streams live daily --24/7!
  2. CHI Project: Interactive multi-media seminars on Culture, Heritage and Identity
  3. (CHI) Collaborations and partnerships with local, regional, national and international institutions and non-governmental organizations to institute interactive programs to increase cultural sensitivities for smart growth, economic development, heritage tourism, agriculture, arts and related businesses in educational opportunities for the VI, Caribbean, American, African, EurAsian and other social perspectives. Featured programs and partnerships:
  • Maroon Sanctuary Economic Cultural Heritage ecotourist developments and commemorations with St. Croix Unified for Culture, Community, Environment and Economic Development (SUCCEED); 
  • Cultural Competency professional development, research and programming with the VI Developmental Disabilities Council (VIDDC),
  • Non-profit consortia and cultural philanthropic development with St. Croix Foundation for Community Development, (SCF) and more.
  1. Increasing enrollment of UVI students in Caribbean Cultural Studies (CCS) degree and certificate programs within UVI's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS).

  2. Organizing with University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, University of the West Indies-Cave Hill Barbados and multiple host institutions in the Caribbean for the annual Islands In Between/ Easter Caribbean Cultures Conference in November.

  3. Collaborating with local, regional, national and international institutions and non-governmental organizations to institute interactive programs to increase cultural sensitivities for smart growth, economic development, heritage tourism, agriculture, arts and related businesses in educational opportunities for the VI, Caribbean, American, African, EurAsian and other social perspectives.   4. Research, publication and collaboration among regional, national and global partners on linguistics, arts, scientific studies and other disciplines impacting cultures. 

  5. Use of 21st century technologies to encourage respect and sustainability of cultural multi-media arts and global heritage sciences and more!
