Entrance of UVI Float:

Join us as we celebrate the University of the Virgin Islands’55th Birthday. UVI celebrates its Emerald Jubilee in our float presentation called “A Toast to the Emerald Celebration for the Centennial Commemoration!”  Our presentation honors and applauds the significant contributions of intellectual nourishment that the University of the Virgin Islands has imparted on the people of the Virgin Islands for last 55 years through its 47 undergraduate and graduate degree programs across its five colleges and schools. Founded in 1962, UVI is a public, co-ed, land-grant HBCU (Historically Black College and University) in the United States Virgin Islands. Approximately 2,500 students are enrolled on the two campuses: the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix and the St. Thomas Campus.

Let’s toast to our past presidents for their visionary intelligence and steadfastness in developing and cultivating this outstanding institution of higher learning.  Dr. Lawrence C. Wanlass was UVI's first president. He served from 1962-1980.  Dr. Arthur A. Richards was UVI's second president and served from 1980-1990.  Dr. Orville E. Kean was UVI's third president, who served from 1990-2002. Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster, UVI's fourth president, served from 2002-2009. Our current and fifth president of the University of the Virgin Islands is Dr. David Hall.

Let’s Celebrate a Centennial Commemoration for our 65th Carnival Celebration” with UVI as we stay focused on our vision to “Specialize in Futures.” We burst with pride in our presentation “A Toast to the Emerald Celebration for the Centennial Commemoration!”
