Members of the media are invited to cover and photograph the University of the Virgin Islands Student Convocation featuring the United States Supreme Court Justice the Honorable Sonia Sotomayor from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 9, in the Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas Campus. The event will be livestreamed to a close circuit feed in the Great Hall on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.
Judge Sotomayor serves as an associate justice with the Supreme Court and is the first Hispanic to serve on this high court and is honored to be a part of the Virgin Islands historic centennial celebration and the University’s 55th Anniversary of its existence. Judge Sotomayor will also receive an honorary degree at the Convocation.
Priority seating will be provided for students who are attending. Faculty, staff and administrators are also invited to attend.
Media Guidelines:
The University has been asked to adhere to strict guidelines for this event.
- Reporters will be seated in a designated press section and may not participate in the audience question and answer, should there be one.
- Photos by the press will be limited to the first and last one to two minutes of the Justice’s program, but no photos can be taken from beyond the official press area on the floor. Photos will be provided to the media on the day of the event.
- Broadcast cameras should work from a fixed position at the back of the room.
- The Justice will not be available for interviews.
