Miss UVI serves as a goodwill ambassador for the University. This role includes but is not limited to participation in UVI's recruitment efforts, representing the University locally and abroad, and maintaining a highly visible role on UVI's St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses. The winner will receive one full year of UVI tuition, including room and board, jewelry and a luggage set, among a host of other prizes. The first runner up will receive $1,000 and jewelry, among other prizes.Contestant number one is 21-year-old Ivory Carter, a junior on the St. Croix campus with a major in Criminal Justice. Ivory was born on St. Croix. She aspires to become a V.I. police detective.
Contestant number two is 26-year-old Latoya Rouse, a junior on the St. Thomas campus with a major in Psychology. Latoya was born in St. Kitts. She aspires to become a clinical psychologist.
Contestant number three is 21-year-old Najuma Dunn, a sophomore on the St. Thomas campus with a major in Computer Science. Najuma was born in Jamaica. She aspires to become a computer science professor.
Contestant number four is 18-year-old Raynyse Nesbitt, a sophomore on the St. Thomas campus with a major in Applied Mathematics. Raynyse was born on St. Croix. She aspires to become a mechanical engineer with the U.S. Air Force.
Awards will be given for the Most Intellectual Speaker, Best Ambassadorial Presentation, Best Performing Talent, Best Evening Wear, Miss Congeniality, Miss Popularity and Miss Photogenic. Prizes will be given for each award category.
Advance purchase tickets are $15 for UVI students with valid identification and $20 for the general public. They are available at the Reichhold Center Box Office and the UVI Bookstores on the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses. Tickets will be $25 at the door.
The Miss UVI Ambassadorial Competition is presented by the Queen's Committee of the UVI Student Government Association.
The reigning Miss UVI Daniella Henry will host a "Pre-Miss UVI Ambassadorial Queen's Tea Party Reception," at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, at the President's Guest House on UVI's St. Thomas campus. The reception is open to females interested in pageantry. It is designed to honor past UVI queens for their commitment and dedication as ambassadors. A special guest appearance is planned by Ashleigh Taylor, the reigning Miss Tennessee State University and Miss National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame.
