The University of the Virgin Islands Division of Student Affairs will sponsor the second annual Women's Leadership Forum on Thursday, March 29, as part of the University's 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee festivities. The forum will feature five UVI female alumni and their accomplishments. It is being held in observance of Women's History Month, and will be conducted via videoconference between the Administration and Conference Center on UVI's St. Thomas campus and the Great Hall on UVI's Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.
Scheduled from 5:30 until 7 p.m., the forum will highlight the
accomplishments of Virgin Islands women in business, education,
medicine, the military and the ministry. It is the second in a
series of planned Golden Jubilee Ideas and Issues Forums, which
were popular at the College of the Virgin Islands in the 1960s, 70s
and 80s.
Entitled, "Changing Roles of Women over Fifty Years: for Better or
Worse," forum organizer and UVI Associate Campus Executive for
Student Affairs Dr. Doris Battiste ('72) said the Women's Forum is
being held to empower female UVI students to realize their
potential.
"Since UVI is celebrating its 50th Golden Jubilee Anniversary,
we have decided to feature UVI female alumni and highlight their
accomplishments," Dr. Battiste said. "This year we are featuring
five dynamic female alumni from different professions."
St. Croix presenters UVI Trustee and Assistant Chief Executive
Officer of the Economic Development Authority Jennifer Nugent-Hill
('79, '87) and noted St. Croix gynecologist Dr. Anne O. Treasure
('86) will participate from the Great Hall on the Albert A Sheen
Campus on St. Croix.
UVI Professor of Education Dr. Rita Howard ('73), U.S. Army Colonel Caroline Adams-Fawkes (retired) ('88, '96, '99), the first female Virgin Islands pilot for the V.I. National Guard, and Pastor Lucia Woods ('73) of Tortola will participate from the Administration and Conference Center on UVI's St. Thomas campus. A question and answer segment will follow the presentations.
