Members of the media are invited to cover and photograph the University of the Virgin Islands “Backpacks for Success” back to school donation to students at the Queen Louise Home for Children.
UVI students, faculty and staff contributed school related supplies for children in need, in preparation for the upcoming school year. The donations will be presented to Dana Holtz, Queen Louise Home for Children director, at 10 a.m. on Aug. 12, at the Queen Louise Home located five miles outside of Frederiksted town on St. Croix.
The Queen Louise Home for Children provides temporary placement in a family setting for children ages birth to 12 who have been the victims of abandonment, abuse or neglect. They also provide a home and 24-hour care to the most critically disabled and medically fragile children, most of which are wheelchair bound.
This effort is a part of activities to fulfill an aspiration in UVI’s strategic plan, and a Board of Trustees approved goal, that requires UVI to use its resources to assist and improve community based organizations.
