Members of the media are invited to photograph and cover a series of events scheduled during the University of the Virgin Islands’ Pride Week, March 23 – March 27, 2015.
Pride Week features pep rallies and speeches on UVI’s St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses, as well as area high schools. Staff, students and alumni will wear UVI paraphernalia and engage in a series of celebratory activities. The week also includes the UVI Charter Day, which commemorates the 53rd anniversary of the University. The Hon. Kenneth E. Mapp, governor of the Virgin Islands, will be the keynote speaker.
Another highlight of the week is the inaugural VI Literary Festival and Book Fair, featuring prominent Caribbean authors, including Jamaica Kincaid and Tiphanie Yanique. The festival features book signings, workshops, and a theatrical performance on the life of St. Croix native and activist Hubert Harrison.
