Members of the media are invited to cover selected activities planned during UVI’s fall semester Orientation Week for new and transfer student. Official Orientation Week activities run from Monday, Aug. 18, through Friday, Aug. 22. Numerous sessions are designed to help students adjust to the academic and social aspects of college life.
Prime events for coverage are: Residence Hall Move-in Day on both campuses, from noon to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18; and the first-ever New Student Convocations are set at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, on St. Thomas, and at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, on St. Croix. UVI Provost Dr. Camille A. McKayle calls the convocations the beginning of a new tradition at the University. New students will be “pinned” with specially designed UVI pins designating them as members of the University. Faculty, wearing academic regalia, will attend, and UVI President Dr. David Hall will present a formal address. Both convocations will be followed by welcome receptions for the newly minted UVI Buccaneers.
