University of the Virgin Islands nursing alumni, faculty and friends are invited to celebrate 50 years of Nursing Education in 2015. The College of the Virgin Islands (CVI) nursing program started at the college with 25 students in 1965. There have been over 700 nursing graduates over the past 50 years. 2015 will be the program’s 50th Anniversary. Events are being scheduled for May 15-16, 2015 on St. Thomas and May 17-18, 2015 on St. Croix. The theme is “Caring and Making a Difference.”
Dr. Judith Grybowski, event coordinator and CVI/UVI professor emerita, is currently working to reunite all the nursing graduates and faculty. “We are thrilled to observe the history of the programs and the commitment which our nursing faculty, students and graduates have made to support the health care system in our communities,” said Dr. Grybowski, who taught at UVI for 30 years.
The event is in the early planning stages. Class agents to represent each class year from both campuses are needed to assist with coordinating the event. The planning committees are coordinating dinners, beach parties and other events.
The Associate of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc.
“We hope to bring in as many of our alumni and faculty as we possibly can,” said Dr. Grybowski. “It’s about reconnecting, knowing that you have these wonderful memories and that you are where you are because you started out here at CVI or UVI.”
