All UVI classes beginning at 4 p.m. today
are cancelled until further notice. A tropical storm watch is in
effect for the Virgin Islands, with gusting winds between 35 and 60
mph and between 5 and 10 inches of rain. Tropical storm Omar is
projected to last through Wednesday and into Thursday
morning.
All UVI personnel should protect their
individual work spaces in accordance with the Hurricane Season
Preparedness Brief for protection from wind and water damage. The
University offices will officially close Wednesday Oct. 15th, at
mid-day. Essential UVI personnel are asked to report to work
Wednesday morning to ensure that all campus areas have been
secured.
Local students on St. Thomas who live in
campus housing are urged to return to their family homes on St.
Thomas today. Local students on St. Croix who live in campus

today. Transportation between islands will not be
possible.
All members of the UVI community are asked
to be cautious and safe during this storm.
