St. Croix Repairs Are Ongoing

Cleanup continues at the University of the Virgin Islands in the wake of Hurricane Omar. The University reopened for business, in a recovery mode, on Friday, Oct. 17.

Classes on both campuses are suspended, with tentative plans to resume regular schedules on Monday, Oct. 20. Over the weekend, students, faculty and staff should monitor the UVI hotlines (St. Croix: 340-692-4168; St. Thomas: 340-693-1016) and local radio broadcasts for the latest details.

All staff on both campuses are required to report to work on Monday for their regular work schedules.

The library on the St. Thomas campus will re-opened for service with regular hours on Saturday, Oct. 18. The library on St. Croix will tentatively re-open on Monday, Oct. 20. Students who live in the residence halls on St. Thomas were advised to begin returning on Friday, Oct. 17. On St. Croix, students may return to the residence halls beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 19.

The storm's impact on the St. Thomas campus was minimal. However, significant damage was reported on the St. Croix campus, with downed trees and water damage in offices, classroom buildings and residence halls. Repair efforts, hampered by continuing power outages, also continued today on the St. Croix campus' telephone and internet services.
