UVI Continues to Monitor Tropical Depression Seven, Employees Asked to Enter Phase Two Preparations

The University of the Virgin Islands continues to monitor all activity associated with Tropical Depression Seven.  According to the National Hurricane Center’s 11 a.m. advisory, TD Seven is located at 16.5 north and 49.6 west with maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour. Its present movement is at 14 miles per hour. There are no watches or warnings in effect for the U.S. Virgin Islands at this time. 

Both campuses are asked to review the emergency response plansand begin preparedness activities in Phase Two, which is enacted 72 hours before a possible strike.  

The UVI Community is reminded to: 

  • Check the UVI website at www.uvi.edu for status of preparations.  

  • Back-up and secure all electronic data to ensure all sensitive equipment is protected. 

  • Arrange to have photos taken of office and building contents. 

  • Assign Area Team members to distribute plastic bags to cover equipment and files. Bags are distributed to individual workstations by area teams and if needed by Physical Plant.

UVI will continue to monitor the system and provide an update on Thursday, Sept. 15. Please continue to monitor University communications. All UVI students and employees are encouraged to sign-up for UVI Bucs Alert emergency messages, which is used to share critical information via text messages and e-mail. Participants can simply add their cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses to the “Personal Information” page in UVI’s BanWeb accounts.
