The University of the Virgin Islands will host a weeklong cadre of exciting virtual events as part of, a first of its kind, virtual initiative dubbed “Back the Bucs Week, between Monday, March 15, and Sunday March 21.

“Back the Bucs Week” will highlight UVI’s Charter Month and the observance of Charter Week, celebrating the establishment of the College of the Virgin Islands (now the University of the Virgin Islands) on March 16, 1962, as we highlight our esteemed UVI academic units.

“The University of the Virgin Islands has been a part of this community for 59 years. This year offers double the fun, as UVI “Back the Bucs Week” serves as a precursor to our traditional Afternoon on the Green celebration.

“We worked hard to pull this year’s event together and believe this effort will allow the world to experience a virtual taste of our campus community,” said Neaves.

“We were challenged with the best approach to take with Afternoon on the Green this year, with so many Covid-19 safety precautions in place,” said Neaves. “However, our annual event has a special place in the University community and serves to complement our traditional Charter Month celebration. The pandemic has forced many of us to reevaluate our work life and has brought a fresh perspective to the way we will live going into the future.”

“The Afternoon on the Green Committee deliberated on the idea and decided to host a weeklong event in keeping with our annual tradition,” Neaves said.

The highly anticipated Afternoon on the Green celebration will feature many of the things you have come to know and love about Afternoon on the Green, including cooking demonstrations, musical performances, cultural workshops along with children’s activities and so much more.

Back the Bucs Week and Afternoon on the Green are made possible through the kind sponsorship of the U.S.V.I. Department of Tourism, the V.I. Lottery, First Bank VI and the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts (VICA).

While Afternoon on the Green is a “friendraiser” UVI also raises money to support student scholarships. To donate - AOTG2021 donation page:  t.ly/Cunv and or text Text AOTG2021 to 91999. Call (340)-692-4231
