UVI Names Dr. Suzanne Darrow-Magras New UVI CELL Director

The University of the Virgin Islands welcomes Dr. Suzanne Darrow-Magras as the director for the UVI Center for Excellence in Leadership and Learning (UVI CELL). Dr. Darrow-Magras brings over 20 years of experience in education program management, online education, as well as career and technical education to the center. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from Central Connecticut State University, in New Britain, CT; a master’s degree in Instructional Technology, in Danbury, CT, and a Ph.D. in Education Technology and e-Learning from Northcentral University, in San Diego, CA.

“I am thrilled to be back at the University of the Virgin Islands and it’s an honor to lead UVI CELL,” said Dr. Darrow-Magras.  “For over 17 years, UVI CELL has supported the territory’s continuing education needs and I’m excited about the new programs and services we are launching in 2020.” Dr. Darrow-Magras is a visionary, innovative, and passionate about building relationships around education, creativity, and problem-solving throughout the community in the interest of meeting the individual’s and organizations’ needs of the Territory.

Dr. Darrow-Magras is no stranger to the UVI community. She previously worked at UVI as the IT supervisor for Faculty Technology Services in 2009.   In conjunction to this new appointment, Dr. Darrow-Magras serves as the secretary of the Virgin Islands Board of Career and Technical Education, where she is a UVI representative, as well as a council member for the U.S. Virgin Islands Apprenticeship State Council.

“We are excited to have Dr. Darrow-Magras rejoin the UVI family. She brings in-depth knowledge and experience that will transform CELL into a dynamic and transformative leadership development and training center,” said Dr. Haldane Davies, vice president for Business Development and Innovation.

Dr.  Darrow-Magras specializes in training design, facilitation, leadership and team development, and performance management. She is also a certified anger management specialist I, National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) master trainer, and Prosci Change Management practitioner, just to name a few. She previously worked with at-risk youth as the education manager for My Brother’s Workshop, served as senior manager for learning and development at the International Capital Management Company, and taught computer applications and served as the technology coordinator at Charlotte Amalie High School.
