The University of the Virgin Islands will close at noon today as the Territory prepares for the arrival of Tropical Storm Karen, which is expected to impact the U.S. Virgin Islands on Tuesday, Sept. 24. All non-essential UVI employees are asked to prepare their respective work areas prior to leaving at noon today. UVI classes are cancelled at noon as well.
According to the National Hurricane Center’s 8 a.m. advisory, Tropical Storm Karen is located at 14.2 north and 64.4 west with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour. Its present movement is at 8 miles per hour. There is a tropical storm warning in effect for the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The University community is asked to follow the emergency response plan and begin preparedness activities as necessary.
