Dolor Named Interim Lady Bucs Basketball Coach

Coach Jackson Dolor

St. Croix native and basketball coach veteran, Jackson Dolor has been named University of the Virgin Islands Interim Lady Bucs Head Basketball Coach. Dolor has been serving as associate coach for the UVI Bucs Men’s Basketball team since 2017. He helped lead the University to the most wins in the school’s history during the 2017-2018 season.

Dolor will replace Coach Reggie Carrick who stepped down after serving in the position since 2017. Carrick will stay on at UVI as a full-time professor on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.

Currently, Coach Dolor is poised to lead the Lady Bucs with distinction and propel them forward. “My hope is to bring an equal field to where our young ladies and men are at the exact same level,” he said. “When you think about one of our dynamic teams, you will think about the other.”

Dolor has more than 20 years of experience coaching. His first coaching job was at Kemper Military School in 1998 where he served as the associate head coach.  The following year, Kemper Yellow Jackets made it to the regional tournament for the second time in the college’s history.  From 2000 through 2003, he worked as a volunteer and student assistant at Murray State University where he helped in recruiting the best players.  He also served as head assistant coach for the Men’s Basketball team at Gulf Coast Community College, now Gulf Coast State College, in Panama City, Fla.

“I am a positive individual and I hope to bring a very positive and UVI first attitude and atmosphere to the team,” Dolor said. “As a Virgin Islander, I am very patriotic and plan to instill the same type of attitude in these young ladies that will represent this University.”

Dolor is a graduate of the St. Croix Central High School. He attended the University of the Virgin Islands in 1996 and played for the Men’s Basketball team.

“I am pleased that we have selected Coach Dolor to take the helm of the Lady Bucs Basketball team,” said UVI Athletic Director Wilberto Ramos. “Dolor brings with him a wealth of experience and team spirit I believe will be invaluable to our students.”
