Reichhold Center for the Arts presents the first family-friendly performance for its 36th season, with a mind-bending, mystifying performance by Spencers Theatre of Illusion. The performances take place on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 at 7 p.m.
Spencers Theatre has been mesmerizing audiences with perplexing illusions for more than a decade. An amazing stage presence and unbelievable tricks have propelled founder Kevin Spencer to become one of the premiere illusionists, ranked among some of the best, including Criss Angel and David Copperfield. The show is highly interactive, with audience members participating in the magic.
The Spencers have redefined the art of illusion and are shattering the stereotype of the traditional magician and assistant. They are the only artists in history to be named Performing Arts Entertainers of the Year for a record-breaking six consecutive years. The group has twice been named America’s Best Entertainers.
Spencers Theater also uses their magic and illusion skills as a healing tool for the physically challenged through a special program called “Healing Of Magic.” Recently, the program has expanded into the area of special education. The Spencers also developed HOCUS FOCUS, a comprehensive curriculum available to teachers to provide them with a visual, exciting, and motivating way to allow students to safely explore skill levels, improve existing skills, and develop new ones. HOCUS FOCUS also provides students with the opportunity to improve oral and written expression, listening and reading comprehension, reading skills, and mathematical calculation and reasoning.
The Spencers troupe will be on St. Thomas from March 2 – March 8 to take part in a series of Arts in Education workshops for students. The workshops are sponsored by the VI Council on the Arts. Tickets for Spencers Theater of Illusion are: $40 covered, $30 lower uncovered and $20 upper uncovered. Student discounts will be offered at various public and private schools.
