Members of the media are invited to cover and photograph the UVI Buccaneers’ inaugural home soccer match on the school’s new, LAI league-approved soccer field on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix, on Saturday, Oct. 4. The 2 p.m. matchup pits UVI against Polytecnica University of Puerto Rico. Activities begin at 1 p.m. with an official opening ceremony at the new field, a ribbon cutting and processions of players from both teams, with the players being escorted by members of the VI Soccer Association Youth players and the AYSO Youth players.
During halftime, UVI students will provide dance and steel band performances, and a special presentation of balls and other soccer paraphernalia to Hispanic youth in attendance is scheduled. Additionally, a pre-game team reception and pep rally is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, during a Hispanic Heritage Month reception at the UVI Great Hall.
The Bucs won their first match of the season Wednesday, Oct. 1, downing UPR-Carolina, 3-2. The Bucs are 1-2 on the season, going into the home opener.
