UVI President Says VI Community Must Work Harder to Prevent Violence

UVI Presidents message
Following the Friday, April 19, shooting on the University of the Virgin Islands Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix, which claimed the life of a young man, UVI President David Hall called on the Virgin Islands community to work harder to prevent violence.

"The University is saddened and disturbed by the senseless killing and robbery of Troy Joseph that occurred on our Albert A. Sheen Campus on Friday night," Dr. Hall said. "Though Troy was not a UVI student, his death is a tremendous loss for all of us. I have personally conveyed our sympathy to his mother, and promised to provide information to the Virgin Islands Police Department so that his killer is apprehended," Dr. Hall continued. "The senseless violence that exists within the community has now reached our campus. The death of Troy Joseph should remind all of us that we must work even harder to prevent violence in our communities and change the values of so many of our youth."
