Dr. Dennis Kimbro
International guest lecturer and best-selling author Dr. Dennis Kimbro will be the featured speaker at the University of the Virgin Islands’ second 13D Entrepreneurship Speaker Series lecture at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 2l, in the Administration and Conference Center on the St. Thomas Campus and in the Great Hall on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. Dr. Kimbro will share insights on how Americans can reach their untapped potential. As a lecturer and researcher in the field of management, entrepreneurship and human potential, his teachings encourage people to look within to extract the keys that underlie all accomplishment.  The event is free and the general public is invited.

“Dr. Kimbro is a dynamic speaker with a message perfect for our times,” said Dr. Timothy Faley, UVI’s Kiril Sokoloff distinguished professor of entrepreneurship. “His motivational and passionate presentation will resonate with anyone interested in seeking a path to their own financial aspirations. I highly encourage students and community members to take advantage of this opportunity to hear directly from Dr. Kimbro.”

“I can tell you unequivocally that wealth is not a function of gender,” said Dr. Kimbro in an interview with Roland Martin on “Washington Watch” on TV1. “It’s not a function of race.  It’s not a function of circumstance, not a function of condition, how the cards were dealt, which side of the town you were born on. But it is a function of choice, and it is a function of discipline, and it is a function of effort and faith and believing in yourself.”

Currently, Dr. Kimbro is a professor at the Clark Atlanta University School of Business Administration. He received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma, and a doctorate from Northwestern University, where he studied wealth and poverty among underdeveloped countries. After college, Dr. Kimbro combed America in search of the answer to a question – How can impoverished black Americans pull themselves out of their poverty and reach their full potential? He studied the methodology and research techniques of 1930s Author Napoleon Hill, who wrote “Think and Grow Rich.”

After extensive research Dr. Kimbro wrote his first book, “Think and Grow Rich: A Black Choice,” an update of Hill’s book. In the book, he reveals the secrets of success from the lives of peak performing men and women, and explains how readers can utilize the information to make their dreams come true. He has also written “The Wealth Choice: Success Secrets of Black Millionaires,” “Daily Motivations,” “What Makes the Great Great: Strategies for Extraordinary Achievement” and “What Keeps Me Standing.”

Dr. Kimbro has been awarded the “Dale Carnegie Personal Achievement Award” and the National Black MBA Association presented him with the “2005 H. Naylor Fitzhugh Award.” In 1996, he served as one of eight national judges for the “Ernst and Young USA Today Entrepreneur of the Year” competition held in Palm Springs, Calif. As a certified Napoleon Hill Science of Success trainer and leadership coach, Dr. Kimbro has spoken in Australia, South Africa, South Korea and Iceland. He has also spoken in the boardrooms of General Motors, Walt Disney Corp., Hewlett-Packard, Frito-Lay and Citigroup. He has addressed the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football teams, the Kansas City Royals baseball team, and the Denver Nuggets basketball team. He has appeared on the Today Show, Larry King and CNN. Dr. Kimbro has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and USA Today.

The 13D Entrepreneurial Speaker Series was developed with a $5 million gift given to UVI from investment strategist and entrepreneur Kiril Sokoloff, the founder of 13D Research (USVI) LLC (13D). This gift created the 13D Student Entrepreneurship Competition, the Entrepreneurial Speaker Series, and a Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship.
