UVI Classes Cancelled Saturday and Sunday as TS Maria Passes; Classes Resume Monday

The Virgin Islands remain under a tropical storm watch as Tropical Storm Maria approaches our area. The storm is anticipated to pass just to the south of St. Croix on Saturday evening and is expected to be accompanied by rainfall of from 4 to 8 inches and tropical force winds into Sunday morning.

There will be no classes on either campus on Saturday or Sunday. The Brewers Beach restroom facility on St. Thomas will be closed on Saturday and Sunday due to surf conditions as a result of the passage of Tropical Storm Maria.

The University will resume normal business operations and classes on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011.

Essential UVI employees may be called in for duty as emergency conditions warrant.

Visit the UVI website at www.uvi.edu, the UVI Emergency Hotlines at 693-1016 on St. Thomas and 692-4168 on St. Croix, Audix and local radio, television and weather websites.

UVI employees are asked to ensure that all necessary preparations have been completed before leaving work at the end of the day today and to take the necessary precautions at home.
