Daniella Henry Crowned Miss UVI for 2011-12

STX Fundraiser Set Sept. 2

Miss UVI Daniella Henry will represent the University and the Virgin Islands at the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame's Conference Miss UVI Daniella Henryfrom Sept. 22-26, 2011, in Atlanta, Ga. She will also participate in the conference's annual Competition of College Queens scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 24.

A fund-raising fashion show - the Freshman Fall Fashion Explosion: What's H.O.T.T. This Fall - will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, at the Cafetorium of UVI Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. Proceeds from the show will be used to help Miss UVI prepare for her journey to Atlanta.

The show will showcase styles from Alliance Clothing, Eagle's Fashion, the UVI Bookstore, Strictly the Best Men & Kids Wear, Garment City, Rainbow, Crucian Apparel, Marianne's, Hair Unlimited Beauty Supply & Salon, Stilettos & Bow Ties, Accessorize, and the S.T. B. Golden Surprise.

The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. sharp. General Admission is $12, and $10 for students with I.D.s. Tickets will be sold exclusively at the UVI Bookstore.

Daniella Henry was crowned Miss UVI for 2011-2012 during the Ambassadorial Competition held Saturday, April 9, at the Island Center for the Performing Arts on St. Croix. Shamelle Farrington was named first runner-up. Danielle Christian was named second runner-up.

In addition to the overall title, Henry won the Miss Intellect, Miss Popularity and a share of the Best Business Wear segments of the competition. The 21-year-old senior is studying at the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. She is a Thurgood Marshall Leadership Scholar and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. As president of the Student Orientation Leaders and the Student Advisory Council, she is interested in exploring innovative ways the University can improve and enhance the experience for new, transfer and current students on both campuses. Henry hopes to one day be elected to represent St. Croix in the Virgin Islands Legislature.

Farrington, a 19-year-old junior Nursing major who plans to become a registered nurse and to continue her studies abroad, also won the competition's Best Ambassadorial Presentation segment. A former Miss Addelita Cancryn Junior High School, Farrington has participated in many stepping competitions and a variety of volunteer services. She is a five-time winner of the Junior Calypso Monarch title.

Christian, a 21-year-old senior Business Administration major who has a minor in Military Science and bears the distinction of being the first four-year Army ROTC scholarship recipient in the Virgin Islands, won the Miss Photogenic, Best Performing Talent and Best Evening Wear segments of the competition. Upon graduation she plans to become the first female in the Virgin Islands to become a second lieutenant in the United States Army through UVI's ROTC program.

Briana Henley, a 19-year-old junior Elementary Education major from the island of Tortola, won the Miss Congeniality and a share of the Best Business Wear segments. She transferred to UVI from H. Lavity Stoutt Community College. Dancing, swimming, shopping, traveling and reading are her favorite hobbies. Her belief that children are our future has inspired her to plan for a career in education.
