UVI junior communications major Sondria
Pemberton has been selected as one of seven finalists in the
national Sprint 4G Filmmakers Challenge. The community's help is
needed to vote at http://www.4gcompetitiveedge.com
for Pemberton's short film, "Sprint 4G Saves Tropical Day," which
can be viewed at the website.
The Sprint 4G Filmmakers Challenge is open to college students
across the nation, in partnership with the Thurgood Marshall
College Fund. The competition pits Pemberton's short film against
those produced by six other finalists, all of whom were required to
utilize a video-enabled 4G Sprint mobile device or any
video-capable device. The two entries with the highest number of
votes win a $2,500 cash prize to launch their career, roundtrip
airfare and ground transportation to Washington, D.C., hotel
accommodations for two nights, and lunch with a Sprint
executive.
Votes from the Virgin Islands community and abroad are needed.
Pemberton is confident that with the help of the community, a
sufficient number of votes can be obtained, which will enable her
to win. Votes must be cast online utilizing a computer. Voting is
open until Tuesday, March 29th.
The competition's head judge and ambassador is Golden Globe nominee
Idris Elba, whose dramatic resume includes a starring role in the
Tyler Perry film "Daddy's Little Girls."
Pemberton urged the community to utilize social media to spread the
word, as several votes are needed to help her on her competitive
journey. Votes can be cast at http://www.4gcompetitiveedge.com
.
"Vote every day until Tuesday, March 29th," Pemberton said. She
thanked UVI Communications Instructor Dr. Alexander Randall, 5th
for the training she has received.
According to Sprint, the 4G Filmmakers Challenge offers diverse
students a chance to demonstrate their creativity using the
cutting-edge technology of smartphone devices.
The community may remember Pemberton as the voice of "Good News" on
WSTA as a summer intern.
