Marthious Clavier Elected UVI Alumni Trustee

Marthious Clavier ('02, '09) was recently elected as the University of the Virgin Islands Alumni Trustee. The Alumni Trustee is a voting member of the UVI Board of Trustees, the policy-making body of the institution. Clavier replaced Deanna E. Rogers ('85, '87) on the Board. Clavier's term will run from 2010-2013.

"I would just like to first say thanks to all the alumni for their support. I also want to thank my wife, family and friends for their support," Clavier said. "I am truly honored to be elected as the next Alumni Trustee. I pledge to use my skills and experiences to make decisions that will be in the best interest of UVI as we move our prestigious institution from good to great."

UVI Alumni Association President Jacqueline A. Sprauve ('94) welcomed Clavier to his new position and wished him much success. Sprauve also thanked outgoing Trustee Rogers for her service over the past five and a half years. Rogers began her service as the first Alumni Trustee in 2004 when the position was established by the 25th Legislature of the Virgin Islands.

The Alumni Trustee serves as a liaison between the Alumni Association and the Board of Trustees. The Alumni Trustee is charged with: complying with the by-laws and all other governing documents of the UVI Board of Trustees; attending regular quarterly meetings of the Board; reporting on new developments and issues of concern to the Alumni Association; and presenting Alumni Association issues to the Board via the appropriate committee.

Clavier is a member of the St. Croix chapter of the Alumni Association. The legislation which established the Alumni Trustee prescribes that, "no chapter shall have two consecutive members on the board." Former Trustee Rogers is a member of the St. Thomas chapter.

A criterion to vote in the election required that alumni dues be current-annual or lifetime dues.
