The University of the Virgin
Islands St. Thomas campus will field two teams in the American
Cancer Society's Relay for Life, scheduled for June 26-27, at the
Charlotte Amalie High School Track. While both team rosters are
full, organizers are still seeking assistance in meeting the
minimum required contribution of $1,500 per team. Contributions can
be credited to individual team members or to the overall UVI
effort. The teams can also use supporters to help set up and take
down their base tent and to stock it with beverages and food for
the all-night event. Moral support throughout the Relay is always
welcome.
Individuals interested in general support of the Relay for Life effort can also purchase "luminaries" - candle filled paper sacks that are placed around the track during the evening hours of the Relay. Each luminary bag - designated "Survivor" or "In Memory" - serve to commemorate an individual afflicted by cancer. The luminary bags can be purchased for $5 each. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
UVI's 2010 team captains are Christine Freeland and Cary Galdo.
