The University of the Virgin
Islands has announced the revision of its Academic Calendar
covering the 2010 spring semester. The calendar stipulates the
schedule for all academic activities at the University - such as
the registration, orientation, the start and end dates of classes,
holidays, final exams and commencement - for the period from Jan. 4
through May 16, 2010.
The revised calendar begins on Jan. 4, the date UVI staff members
will return from the holiday break. UVI faculty members return on
Jan. 7. New student orientation and registration are set for Jan.
7. Advisement and late registration are scheduled for Jan. 8.
Spring semester classes begin on Jan. 11.
UVI President Dr. David Hall said the revised calendar was
"informed by the deliberations of the Calendar Working Group,
feedback from all constituency groups - Faculty Association, Staff
Council, SGAs (Student Government Associations on both campuses),
the University Senate, and deliberations of the Cabinet." While the
revised calendar addresses most of the concerns raised by these
groups," Dr. Hall said, "No academic calendar will perfectly
address everyone's needs. In weighing the various concerns, I erred
on the side of our academic and student needs."
Other dates of note in the revised calendar include:
• March 8-13: Spring Recess
• March 31: Last day to apply for graduation
• April 28: Last day of classes
• April 29-May 1: Carnival Recess
• May 3-8: Final Exams
• May 15: St. Thomas commencement
• May 16: St. Croix commencement
