Today, residents of the Queen Louise Home for the Aged will receive a dressed Christmas tree for the cafeteria at the Home. For over the past five years the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas/St. John Alumni Chapter has donated a Christmas tree to the residents. An added treat this year was the donation of several cases of dry goods by a local merchant through the efforts of the UVI Institutional Advancement Office.
Recently, the seniors at the Home were also treated to Thanksgiving gift bags from the Chapter. The Chapter has been donating Thanksgiving gifts to the residents for more than eight year
"This is a small token of appreciation by the Chapter for the contributions the seniors' have made to the community prior to taking up residency at the Home," said Jackie Sprauve, Chapter President. "Hopefully more activities can be held for the residents as more UVI Alumni become active in the Chapter."
During the period that the residents have been treated by the Chapter, Sprauve says it has been gratifying to work with the facility's directors, who are nursing graduates of the University. Currently, the Queen Louise Home is operated under the direction of Mrs. Phyllis Massac and formerly by Ms. Jacquelyn Adams.
The Chapter will be celebrating the 40-year contributions of the College of the Virgin Islands/University of the Virgin Islands nurses, with special recognition of the first nursing class at a gala event for UVI Charter Day 2009 on March 14, 2009.
