Virgin Islands cooks who volunteer a dish for UVI’s 2014 edition of the Afternoon on the Green “friend-raiser” will have a chance to win a trip for two to St. Croix. The promotion, a first for Afternoon on the Green, is designed to help encourage more cooks to participate in the popular event that annually draws thousands. This year’s theme is “25 Shades of Green” in honor of the event’s 25th anniversary. It is scheduled for noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, on the Herman E. Moore Golf Course on UVI’s St. Thomas Campus. Dishes offered at the activity are judged by the community by paper ballot or texting. Prizes will be given to the top three winners in each category, main dish, seafood, vegetables/casseroles, soups, side dish, breads, pastries and sweets, and native drinks. This year, the cook earning the most votes overall will win the St. Croix trip. Cooks interested in participating must contact Cherilyn Browne at (340) 693-1040, or email send e-mail to: cbrowne@live.uvi.edu by Monday, March 3, to confirm their donated dishes. An online registration form is available from this link: Afternoon on the Green Cook Donation Registration Form.
