2014 UVI Research Day Call for Abstracts from All Areas of Research

The University of the Virgin Islands has issued a call for abstracts for presentations to be made at the third annual UVI Research Day. It is scheduled to be held on April 10, 2014. Organizers strongly urge all teaching and research faculty to encourage the participation of students engaged in all levels of research. UVI faculty, students and staff are invited to submit abstracts of approximately 200 words or less for research papers and presentations. Research projects from all areas and on all topics are welcomed to demonstrate the scope and quality of research talent at the University. UVI Research Day offers posters and round-table formats. Both are intended to encourage presentations and discussion of projects at different stages of development, as well as to foster intellectual exchange and collaboration.

Poster Format: Poster sessions allow participants to present research and have informal discussions with attendees. Posters should include: the title of poster; the name(s), affiliation, and email address of the author(s); and an abstract of the poster and appropriate details of the study (e.g., research questions, method, results, etc.). Send e-mail to uviresearchday@live.uvi.edu to request a poster template.

Round Table: Round-table sessions will allow a group of participants to assemble with the goal of generating discussion around a shared research interest. They will involve short position or dialogue statements (5-10 minutes) in response to questions distributed in advance by the facilitator. The majority of the sessions will be devoted to discussion. They will consist of three to four participants and the facilitator. Abstracts for round-tables should include: the title of the round-table; facilitator’s name, school/college affiliation, and contact information; the proposed round-table participants’ names, school/college affiliations, and email addresses; and a description of the position statements, questions, or debates that will be under discussion.

Interested participants should submit an abstract indicating the preferred type of session – round-table or poster session – and include the required information specified in the description. The submission deadline is Friday, Feb. 21, 2014. Please submit abstracts with the UVI Research Day submission form at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/UVI_Research_Day. Abstracts will not be accepted after the deadline.

For more information, send questions via e-mail to uviresearchday@live.uvi.edu. Do not submit abstracts to this email address.
