The St. Croix session of UVI’s 2014 Man-Up Conference took place today (Feb. 3) on the Albert A. Sheen Campus. The St. Thomas session is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 4, at UVI’s Sports and Fitness Center. Nationally renowned educator and motivational speaker Baruti Kafele and entrepreneur and noted author Jonathan Sprinkles are the conferences’ featured speakers. The goal of the male empowerment conference, an initiative of UVI’s Brothers With a Cause student organization, is to motivate young male students to pursue a college education. The 2014 theme is "Man Up - Creating a Positive Future.” The St. Thomas conference runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
St. Thomas Campus Acting Chief of Security Theodore Glasford has announced that campus parking rules will be suspended from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sports and Fitness Center to allow open parking. The suspension only affects the Sports and Fitness Center lot. Regular parking rules remain in effect at all other St. Thomas campus locations.
In addition, the conference will feature performances by the Omega Psi Phi fraternity’s National Step Team and the conference’s first high school DJ competition. A news release is available from the Media Section of the UVI website – http://www.uvi.edu – and from this direct link.
