UVI is now accepting applications for the spring 2014 semester students interested in participating in a new exchange program with Xavier University of Louisiana, a Catholic HBCU located in New Orleans. Xavier University offers 46 majors at the undergraduate, graduate and professional degree levels in the arts, sciences and pharmacy. Its pre-medical program ranks first in the nation in the number of African American graduates admitted to medical school. Its College of Pharmacy is among the nation’s top three producers of African American Doctor of Pharmacy degree recipients.
Application forms must be submitted before Oct. 30, 2013. If selected to participate, students continue to pay UVI tuition for the semester. Room and board must be paid to Xavier University, but these costs will not exceed those of UVI.
Participating students must meet each of the following requirements: 1) Be registered as a full-time “regular” undergraduate student (one who is enrolled or accepted for enrollment at the home institution for the purpose of obtaining a bachelor level degree) at the home institution; 2) Meet regular requirements for students in good standing set down by both the home and host institutions; 3) Have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or its equivalent; 4) Have no disciplinary action against them at their home Institution; 5) Have junior standing at the home institution while participating in the program. (Exceptional sophomores may be considered on a case-by-case basis.); and 6) Purchase the medical insurance required by the host institution or demonstrate to the satisfaction of the host institution that medical insurance carried by or on behalf of such student is sufficient for all purposes of the host institution. The cost of any medical insurance required, as well as any medical expenses not covered by such insurance will be the personal responsibility of the student.
