Virgin Islands Conservation Data Center
Welcome. Feel free to have a look around. We are continually updating our site so stay tuned. If you have any comments, questions or recommendations leave us an e-mail and we'll respond accordingly.
Who We Are
The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), Eastern Caribbean Center (ECC), and The Nature Conservancy (TNC), have undertaken the challenge of developing a Conservation Data Center (CDC), as part of a Natural Resources Identification and Long-Term Conservation Plan for the Territory.
The ECC and TNC understand that for the Territory to move forward responsibly in growth and development, those involved in conservation, planning, and development must become partners in creating this plan for the Territory. The partnership includes government and non-government agencies and organizations and private sector developers.
What We Do
The CDC compiles, analyzes, and disseminates natural resource data. The data being collected is linked to a Geographic Information System (GIS). The CDC's GIS lab provides sophisticated analysis as well as accurate and reliable map products for any area of interest in the Territory.
Products are available to any agency, company, or individual making development conservation decisions. It is readily accessible for use by government and non-governmental organizations, as well as private developers in making planning and conservation decisions. The CDC helps to identify and evaluate threats to the natural areas and provides the tools for decision-makers addressing these threats.
Accessibility
CDC's resources and data are readily available to the public. Feel free to come by our offices or call us at the university. The CDC is located in the Eastern Caribbean Center at the University of the Virgin Islands.
