University to Host UVI Hackathons on Nov. 17 & 18

The University of the Virgin Islands will host Hackfest 2017 this fall. This year’s theme is “Disaster Hack: Apps that you WISH you had before, during and after the hurricanes.” The event is once again proudly sponsored by NEARiX, organized by UVIDEA, the student-run innovation and entrepreneurship club, and supported by UVI’s RT Park and VI EPSCoR

The hackathon is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, in the Library, second floor, on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix and in the Ralph Paiewonsky Library on the St. Thomas Campus on St. Thomas. 

Friday’s schedule will include problem identification, an ideation session and team formation/building. On Saturday, the participants will be involved in solution concept creations and give presentations. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. 

Hackfest team prizes include:

  • $500 cash for Best Hack
  • $100 cash for Most Innovative Hack
  • $100 cash for Most Impactful Hack
  •  

Additional prizes will be awarded by EPSCOR and the RT Park.
