Honorable U.S. Supreme Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor to Speak at UVI’s Student Convocation

Supreme Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor The University of the Virgin Islands has been selected to host a Student Convocation with the Honorable Sonia Sotomayor, associate justice, United States Supreme Court. This is a historic and unique opportunity for our students and the University.  The event will take place from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2017 in the Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas Campus. The University will also bestow an honorary degree upon Justice Sotomayor at the Convocation. The event will be video conferenced to the Albert A. Sheen Camps on St. Croix and transportation will be provided for a limited number of St. Croix students who want to attend the event.  

Justice Sotomayor is looking forward to meeting with and hearing from our students, therefore priority seating will be provided for those students who are interested in attending. In order to provide the appropriate amount of priority seats, students must indicate that they plan to attend by registering using this link: UVI Student Convocation - US Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor Registration Form. The registration deadline is no later than Jan. 19, 2017. Justice Sotomayor is especially interested in entertaining questions from students. However, the questions must be submitted ahead of time for consideration. The deadline for UVI’s submission of questions is the end of the day on Jan. 16, 2017.
