In observance of Virgin Islands History Month 2016, the UVI-VI Caribbean Cultural Center is hosting a screening of the film “Proudly We Served: Virgin Islands Veterans of the Vietnam War” on Wednesday, March 2. This film screening starts at 7 p.m. in the UVI-Albert A. Sheen Theater- in Evans Center, room EVC401.
This film is produced and directed by Joan Keenan, retired VI Department of Education educator and librarian; edited and co-directed by Jean Picou, graphic artist and filmmaker; and written by Dr. Roberta Knowles, UVI emeritus professor.
This is the second film in a documentary video series produced by the American Legion, District number10. This video is based on interviews with Virgin Islands veterans and looks at the veterans’ reasons for serving in the armed forces, documents their experiences with combat and racial prejudice while serving their country, and explores their feelings towards the war and the effects it had on their lives.
From http://www.pwsvi.org view the trailer and share this invitation with everyone you know. Join us as we commemorate Virgin Islands history and heritage while welcoming home our VI Veterans with the respect due to each of them, said Dr. Chenzira Davis Kahina, director of Virgin Islands and Caribbean Cultural Center.
Light refreshments are being donated by St. Croix Landmarks Society celebrating their 68th Anniversary. RSVP at (340) 692-4283, (340) 692-4272 and chenzira.daviskahina@uvi.edu.
