The University of the Virgin Islands has scheduled Disaster awareness training on the St. Thomas and the Albert A. Sheen campus on St. Croix, as part of National Campus Safety Awareness month, observed by universities and colleges nationwide. The mission and goal of the awareness activities are to create a safer campus community.
In conjunction with the Virgin Islands Emergency Territorial Management Agency (VITEMA), the UVI Emergency Management Committee will host a Natural Disasters Awareness Training with a focus on Tsunamis.
The goal of the training session is to create an awareness of the natural disasters that threaten the territory, provide a synopsis of VITEMA’s overall territorial preparedness, and foster collaboration between VITEMA and UVI. The training will take place 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22 in the Evans Center room 401 on the Albert A. Sheen campus on St. Croix. On St. Thomas, the training will be held in the Teacher Education Building room 103. The presenter will be VITEMA Director Mona Barnes and VITEMA Training Coordinator Irvin Mason.
