The public is invited to attend the annual “Looking Ahead to the Transfer Centennial 2017” conference from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, in the Great Hall on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. The conference is sponsored by the University of the Virgin Islands VI Caribbean Cultural Center and the Society of Virgin Islands Historians. The theme is “Who was/is D. Hamilton Jackson?”
The conference is free and will include presentations and panel discussions. The presenters and topics include:
- Dr. Elizabeth Rezende – Providing the Background: a Slide Show of Places Associated with D. Hamilton Jackson 1915-1930s
- Dr. Rosary Harper – The Rhetorical Stance of D. Hamilton Jackson in His Speeches in Denmark 1915.
The presenters and panel discussion include:
- Anne Walbom – The Social Democratic Party and the Labor Unions of Denmark and the Worker’s Strike: D. Hamilton Jackson’s Meetings in Denmark
- William F. Cissel – A More Balanced Understanding of D. Hamilton Jackson
- Richard Schrader – reading his award-winning poem "Who Am I" from his book “If the Gobi Tree Could Talk”
