The Office of Institutional Research and Planning will partner with researchers at North Carolina State University, New York University and Interfaith Core, to administer the Interfaith Diversity Experiences and Attitudes Longitudinal Survey (IDEALS). Beginning Aug. 31, IDEALS will be administered to all first-year and first academic term students at UVI. First-year students will need to check their emails starting Aug. 24, for their invitation to take the on-line survey. Participating students will receive a $5 gift.
Designed as a longitudinal study, the Interfaith Diversity Experiences and Attitudes Longitudinal Survey (IDEALS) measures the impact of college on student knowledge of and appreciation for other religious, spiritual, and non-religious worldviews. Additionally, the survey measures the impact that interfaith cooperation has on student experience. IDEALS offers a rich, in-depth picture of the religious and spiritual diversity landscape, as well as benchmark comparisons with other institutions.
IDEALS will be administered at approximately 140 campuses nationwide, comprising a diverse and representative sample of colleges and universities. As part of the four-year survey administration, campuses will administer the instrument to students during their first and fourth years. IDEALS will help administrators and faculty at UVI understand student perceptions of religious and non-religious worldviews. With comprehensive data in hand, UVI can better leverage learning and engagement with religious and philosophical worldview diversity.
