Public Observing Night Set for UVI’s Etelman Observatory on July 17

UVI’s College of Science and Mathematics and the Etelman Observatory will host the next public observing session using the Virgin Islands Robotic Telescope at the observatory on St. Thomas on Friday, July 17. Start times are 7 p.m., 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. The 7 p.m. start time is designed children under 10 years of age, while the 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. shows will be more appropriate for older children and adult guests.

Guests will be treated to views of the planets Venus, Jupiter and Saturn, as well as deep sky objects including several nebulae and galaxies. “We look forward to seeing many of you for another night of astrophysics fun and learning under our beautiful Virgin Islands skies,” said Etelman Observatory Director Dr. David Morris.

This event is presented free of charge to the St. Thomas community. Space is limited. Shuttle service will be provided from the Sibilly School parking lot (near Sibs). Attendees should be at the shuttle stop about 20-30 minutes before their scheduled session start time. Please RSVP with the number of persons in your party and the start time you prefer by sending an e-mail to dmorris@uvi.edu or call (340) 693-1391.
