Youth advocate and inspirational speaker Kevin Shird will present “Your Life, Your Choice,” the story of his path from jail to redemption from 5:30. to 6:30 p.m. on April 16, in the first-floor conference room of Administration and Conference Center on the St. Thomas Campus. His presentation will be video conferenced to the Great Hall on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.
Shird made the choice to sell illegal drugs in Baltimore at the age of 16. As a result, he spent 12 years in a California state prison and federal prison for drug trafficking. Shird, who is co-founder and president of the Do Right Foundation, is working to impact the fight against drugs in America. He has dedicated his life to helping youth understand the perils of street culture that destroys so many lives and families.
Shird published his memoir “Lessons of Redemption” where he tells the truth of inner-city neighborhoods, living with a substance abusing parent, being entangled in heroin trafficking, the murder of his friend, serving time in federal prison, and discovering how to re-establish himself as a loving father, citizen, and strong advocate for youth.
The presentation is free and open to the public. For more information contact Dr. Doris C. Battiste at (340) 693-1171.
