Members of the University community are invited to attend UVI student Jennifer Kisabeth’s thesis defense at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 24. It will be offered in the GeoCAS Institute on the St. Thomas Campus (located on the second floor of the former Accounting Office building). Kisabeth is a graduate student in the Masters of Marine and Environmental Sciences program. Her thesis is titled: "Cruise ship induced sediment resuspension characteristics in Charlotte Amalie Harbor and the West Gregerie Channel, St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands.” Her study explores the possibility that cruise ship port activities are one of the largest potential sources of sediment pollution to the marine environment in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands (USVI). The study could help lead to the implementation of management practices to mitigate future negative impacts from ship induced sediment resuspension.
