Bucs Win Inaugural Home Soccer Match, Downing Polytecnica 2-0

Congratulations to the UVI soccer squad which won its inaugural home soccer match, 2-0, on its new field on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix, on Saturday, Oct. 4. Team captain Denny Smith scored the two winning goals against Ploytecnica University of Puerto Rico. It was also the first game with newly hired Head Coach Dr. David Santesteban at the helm. Some 100 fans gathered at the field for the historic game. Smith was assisted by Kimani George in the first goal and by Ismail S. Yusuf in the second. Goal keeper Jahidi Gussie made an impressive seven saves.

With the win UVI’s soccer Buccaneers stand at 2-2 in LAI (Liga Atletica Interuniversitaria) play. The Bucs go up against Sacred Heart at 1 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 7, on UVI's home field.
