UVI students, faculty and staff on the St. Thomas Campus will participate in annual Red Ribbon Week activities from Monday, Oct. 27 through Thursday, Oct. 30. The 2014 Red Ribbon Week theme is “Love Yourself, Be Drug Free.” The week – which includes a poster, area, office and door decoration contest, a photo day and a Step Off/Speak Out Competition – will conclude with a march against substance abuse and in support of crime prevention on Oct. 30. Marchers will start from Emile Griffith Park and follow the waterfront walkway to Emancipation Garden in Charlotte Amalie beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in all events. The general public is invited to come out in support of the march. Red Ribbon Activities:
- Monday, Oct. 27 – Pledge Against Drugs Day – at several campus locations from noon to 2 p.m.
- Tuesday, Oct. 28 – Wear Red Day and Decoration Competition – Judging from noon to 2 p.m.
– Wear Red Picture Day – Students, faculty and staff to wear read and join a photo session at 4 p.m. near the Recreation Center on the golf course. The first 25 students dressed in red will receive 50 percent off on Halloween Jam tickets. Participants will form a giant red ribbon.
- Wednesday, Oct. 29 – Step Off/ Speak Out Against Drugs Competition – at the UVI Dining Pavilion at 7:30 p.m.
