Public Invited to UVI Research Day on St. Thomas and St. Croix on April 10

The UVI community and general public are invited to UVI Research Day events scheduled on the campuses on St. Thomas and St. Croix, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Thursday, April 10, 2014.

Research Day will highlight the wide variety of research conducted by students, faculty and staff at the University. Some 75 individuals involved in research at UVI will make poster presentations about their work or participate in round table discussions. Round table discussions will occur intermittently during the day. Some topics of discussions planned for UVI Research Day are:

  • The legalization of marijuana in the U.S. Virgin Islands
  • West-Indian Lemongrass in the U.S. Virgin Islands as a Preventive and Treatment Method for Prostate and Breast Cancer
  • Screening of Ciguatera Toxins Found in the Invasive Indo-Pacific Lionfish (Pterois volitans) in the United Stated and British Virgin Islands
  • Facebook Use and Undergraduate Student's Academic Performance
  • Evaluating the impact of breed and pregnancy on body temperature of hair sheep ewes in the tropics

UVI Research Day will take place in the Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas Campus, and in the Great Hall on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.
