The public is invited to a free, two-day workshop on cover crops and soil health in the U.S. Virgin Islands on UVI’s Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix on April 3 and 4. The interactive workshop will explore the world of cover crops, how they contribute to soil health, and the additional benefits they can provide to farms and gardens.
The workshop begins in Room 133 of the UVI Research and Extension Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 3. It continues from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 4, with a tour of field sites at UVI’s Agricultural Experiment Station to view cover crop systems and learn more about our tropical soils. The tour begins outside the campus’ South Gate entrance, near the AES field facility. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and sun protection on Friday. Please RSVP for the workshop by e-mail at sweiss@live.uvi.edu or call (340) 692-4020. This workshop is sponsored by UVI’s Agricultural Experiment Station, the Cooperative Extension Service, the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program and National Resources Conservation Service.
