UVI Honors Student Scholars with 2012-2013 Academic Awards
The University of the Virgin Islands celebrated its top students for 2012-2013 with the 49th annual presentation of Academic Awards on each campus in April. The St. Thomas awards were presented on Sunday, April 14, at the Sports and Fitness Center. On St. Croix, the presentations were made in the Great Hall on Sunday, April 21. Students were honored with highest GPA awards, and individual awards from each of UVI's five schools and colleges. Also recognized were students who received scholarships and those who qualified for the Who's Who Among Students, and the Golden Key and Psi Chi honor societies. April 30 Is Priority Deadline for Fall 2013 Admission to UVI
The UVI Admissions Office reminds prospective students that the priority deadline for fall 2013 admission is Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Interested persons should submit the following items no later than this date: the UVI admissions application, the $25 application fee (or College Board Application Fee Waiver Form), official transcripts, and official test scores.
Applications are being accepted for all undergraduate programs and the following graduate programs: Master of Arts in Education (MAE), Master of Arts in Psychology (MAPSY), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Mathematics for Secondary Education Teachers (MMAT), and Master of Public Administration (MPA).
Prospective undergraduate and graduate students may apply online at admissions.uvi.edu or submit a hard copy application to the Admissions Office on the St. Thomas or St. Croix campuses.

AES Offers Summer Internship Opportunity in Saipan for UVI Student
UVI's Agricultural Experiment Station has funding to support one UVI student to attend a summer internship at the Northern Marians College (NMC) located on the island of Saipan.
The student should be interested in pursuing a career in agriculture, food sciences, environment and natural resources, or biology related sciences, but this is not required. All classes and materials will be offered in English. The course will run from June 3 to 28. Travel will require an additional two or three days going and coming. The course will provide field experience in the various areas of agricultural science, with the private sector and government selected by an academic advisor. A written report and an oral presentation will be required at the end of the internship.
Interested students should be nominated by a faculty member. The students should send a letter of interest and explain how this opportunity would benefit their academic careers by May 8, 2013, to UVI Agricultural Experiment Station Director Dr. Bob Godfrey - rgodfre@live.uvi.edu. UVI Spring Semester Final Exams Begin April 30
Final exams for UVI's 2013 Spring Semester are scheduled from April 30 through May 6. No other student activities should be scheduled during this period. More information is available from the Academics section of the UVI website - http://www.uvi.edu.
UVI Students Can Take Selected Summer Courses Through UVI ONLINE
The University of the Virgin Islands now offers its students the ability to take selected summer courses online. While traveling or otherwise away from campus, students can complete course work online this summer through UVI ONLINE. For additional information contact the course professor or the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at cvineya@uvi.edu. Current students can register for courses online at http://banweb.uvi.edu, once schedules are approved by their advisor.

Volunteers from UVI Community Sought to Assist with St. Thomas Commencement
Volunteers from the UVI Community are sought to assist the St. Thomas Campus Commencement Committee with the 2013 Commencement exercise planned for Saturday, May 11, at the Sports and Fitness Center. Volunteer responsibilities include assisting with ticket taking, ushering and program distribution. Volunteers Sought to Assist with 2013 Commencement on the Albert A. Sheen Campus
The Commencement Committee is seeking volunteers for the events leading up to and on the day of the 2013 Commencement that will take place on Sunday, May 12, 2013 on the Albert A. Sheen Campus. Volunteers will be needed starting from Monday, April 29, 2013. Individuals who would like to volunteer can sign-up with the Counseling & Career Services Office which is located in Evans Center Room 720.

As the University anticipates its single most important event - Commencement - the Public Relations Office is interested in learning about graduates who have interesting and/or extraordinary stories that can be shared with the public. Are there any graduates who have done extraordinary things or are just extraordinary students? Graduating Students Reminded to Complete Exit Interviews
Students who will graduate in UVI's 2013 Commencement exercises in May are reminded that they are required to participate in an exit interview designed to cover their overall student experience at the University. The interviews, which began in March, are being conducted at the UVI Institutional Advancement Offices on both campuses. Students who have not yet completed the interview should make arrangements to do so as soon as possible. Call Institutional Advancement on St. Croix at 692-4231 or on St. Thomas at 693-1607. The goal is to have students, who are the University's main focus, provide constructive feedback that can help the institution improve the UVI experience.
St. Thomas Class of 2013 Students Invited to Join UVI Choir in Commencement Presentation
Interested members of UVI St. Thomas campus graduating class of 2013 are invited to join with the UVI Choir in the singing of an anthem during this year's Commencement exercise on Saturday, May 11. In order to participate, students must participate in a rehearsal with the UVI Choir. Choir rehearsals are held from 4 to 5:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Music Building. UVI Center for Student Success Seeking Learning Assistants for 2013-2014 Academic Year
UVI Center for Student Success has announced vacancies for learning assistants for the 2013-2014 Academic Year. Learning assistants needed for the areas of English, Spanish, French, mathematics, psychology, science, chemistry and more.
Applicants should be junior or senior students with a least a 3.0 Grade Point Average. They should also have the recommendation from a faculty member. Territorial Scholarships Available for Professional, Graduate and Other Studies, Research and Cultural Projects
The Board of Directors of the Virgin Islands Academic & Cultural Awards (VIACAE) Endowment Scholarship is accepting applications through May 17, 2013, for its scholarship program. Virgin Islands residents pursuing professional, graduate or other studies, or those involved in cultural projects, are encouraged to apply for the VIACAE Endowment Scholarship. Created by the VI Legislature in 1970, this program provides financial support to eligible VI residents with a desire to advance their academic and professional studies, and also to those interested in engaging in Cultural Projects that provide significant benefit the people of the territory.
The VIACAE Scholarship is a Virgin Islands territorial scholarship program that is administered by the University of the Virgin Islands. Applications are available from the Provost's Office on both campuses of the University of the Virgin Islands. UVI Community Invited to Website Committee Content Meetings
Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend a series of meetings to collaboratively share ideas for the next generation of the UVI website. The Website Content and Layout Subcommittee will meet weekly to develop content outlines for the gateways and non-departmental sections of the new website. Sessions and the planned areas of focus are:

UVI Student Radio - WUVI-1090 - Offering Live Streaming of Broadcasts on the Internet
Programs broadcast on UVI's student radio station - WUVI 1090 AM - can now be heard live on the Internet. WUVI, dubbed "The voice of the University," has begun live streaming of its broadcast programs. Anyone with an internet connection can hear UVI student radio live, on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. To listen, simply visit the station's new website - http://wuvi.am - and follow the links to the live stream and social media.

UVICELL to Hold One-Day Excel Workshop
The University of the Virgin Islands' Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center will hold a one-day workshop for individuals interested in becoming proficient with the features and techniques of Microsoft Excel. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, at the UVICELL Center on UVI's St. Thomas campus. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of using Excel including how to create, save and print spreadsheets, modify worksheets, format cells and master the formulas and functions that make working with Excel much easier.

UVI CELL Course to Explore Getting the Most Out of High Tech Devices
Smartphones, tablets, pocket PCs - with the latest technological advances - are designed to make our lives easier. But, for the novice user, they can be overwhelming. UVICELL will offer a course to help novice users unravel the mysteries, understand their devices and use their capabilities to the fullest. Although titled Mastering your iPhone/iPad, the course is open to individuals with any smart phone or tablet device. It is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, starting May 7. Sessions will be held at the UVICELL Center on the St. Thomas Campus.
