'Kill the Rabbits' Continues Thursday, April 12, at UVI's Little Theatre
The Golden Jubilee production of Tiphanie Yanique's "Kill the Rabbits" enters its second weekend run at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, at the UVI Little Theatre on the St. Thomas campus. Additional performances are scheduled for April 13-15.
The play was adapted and is directed by David Edgecombe. It is based on Yanique's short story collection entitled "How to Escape From a Leper Colony." The short story "Kill the Rabbits" and the play get their title from the song "Legal" popularized by Nick Friday and The Jam Band. It was at the heart of a 1987 Carnival controversy that local writers and scholars are yet to fully examine. The play features an exploration of how cultural/historic events can lead to the kind of creative expression seen in the short story and play.
UVI's Little Theatre, which has about 100 seats and was
recently renovated, is located in the second floor of the Classroom
Administration (CA) Building. Tickets - $20 for the general public
and $10 for students - are available from the Humanities Office of
UVI's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the UVI
Bookstore on St. Thomas. For details contact Edgecombe at (340)
