Healthy Cooking & Nutrition for Youth June 17-July 15 Register by June 20 STT $50 |
During Healthy Cooking & Nutrition for Youth students will learn about nutrition and then cook healthy and nutritious foods including veggie wraps, bread in a bag, smoothies, etc. Students will learn how to measure ingredients, practice kitchen and food safety, and use large and small kitchen equipment. This program is available from 9am to noon for individuals between 11 and 14 years of age.

Sewing for Youth June 17-July 15 Register by June 20 STT $55 |
During Sewing for Youth students will learn how to operate the sewing machine. Each student will make two or three garments including a pair of shorts. The students will learn how to make their garments by using a commercial pattern. At the end of the summer program, students will showcase their garments in a fashion show for their fellow students and their parents. This program is available from 1pm to 3pm for individuals between 11 and 14 years of age.

Youth Moviemaking Workshop is a fun filled summer program at Reichhold Center that gives students who are interested in moviemaking and films, firsthand experience in learning the ins and outs of this widely popular industry. Students will have 2 weeks of intensive instruction and 3 weeks of production, in which they themselves produce a movie/film to be presented to the general public. The Mathematics Behind the Science (MBS) summer bridge program enhances students’ mathematics skills and prepares them to enter calculus. Also provides a foundation for success in a college or university setting. Field trips will enhance connections to biology, chemistry, physics and the environment. This program is for graduating high school seniors (12th graders) who plan to enroll in college, or UVI freshmen who successfully completed MAT 024.

UVI’s Summer Bridge Program assists incoming freshmen to jump-start their college experience. Bridge students participate in a number of activities aimed at improving their competencies in critical reading, writing and mathematics by taking an entire semester of courses in one summer. Additionally, the program provides students with exposure to the knowledge and skill necessary for success in college. At the end of the program, students are given the UVI placement tests. Students who successfully pass these tests are exempt of skills courses and move directly into college level classes upon enrollment at UVI. Bridge participants also benefit from early Fall semester registration on the last day of the program. While the cost of the program is approximately $4,000 per student, Bridge students are only required to pay a minimal cost of $25.00 towards accidental insurance and internet access. Tuition, books, accommodation and meals are provided at no cost to the students. This program is designed for college-bound high school seniors with SAT scores between 250-350 in reading, writing, and mathematics.

University Bound Program | UVI's University Bound Program, formerly known as the Upward Bound Program, provides students with academic instruction, individual and small group tutorials and counseling, college admissions information, and cultural, social and recreational activities. The new name reflects a change in the program's funding source. Originally funded by the U.S. Department of Education, University Bound is now locally funded through the Virgin Islands Legislature. The Summer Residential Component includes an intense 4-week academic program. Students will attend daily classes in composition/literature, math through calculus, laboratory science through chemistry or physics, and foreign language. Additionally, students will be exposed to a wide variety of cultural enrichment, social and recreational activities. The Entrepreneurship Business Institute (EBI) is a joint effort with International Capital & Management Company (ICMC) in partnership with the University of the Virgin Islands School of Business. EBI is a free three week summer business program held on the St. Thomas campus each year. Thirty (30) students from the U. S. Virgin Islands will have the opportunity to reside on the UVI campus to enjoy a pre-college experience and learn about the advantages and challenges of entrepreneurship, experience mentorship from successful business leaders, while participating in active discussions about concept development and business ownership. Students will also engage in team exercises to improve their team-building and project management skills and enjoy an educational experience where they can participate in forums and discussions facilitated by business professionals along with a group of their peers. The program is open to high school students in grades 10, 11, and 12.

This two-week intensive course involves a minimum of 55 hours comprising of lectures, case studies, role plays, discussions, seminars, group work etc. The course is designed to provide training and education from a multi-disciplinary perspective to equip current and future leaders and managers who are passionate about making a difference. Participants must be either in your third year of college (junior) or fourth year (senior), or enrolled in a graduate program. A mature-aged person with substantial work experience can also apply for this course and qualify to be awarded the certificate upon the completion of the course but without receiving any credit points.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a residential program that allows students to work with a faculty mentor and IoT expert Dr. Michael Smith for 3 to 4 weeks on an interdisciplinary project combining marine and environmental science with Internet technology. As an IoT fellow, you will use innovative methods to solve real world challenges and create usable products, meet multiple times per week for group sessions, presentation of idea, and seminars about Internet and Maker Space technologies. You will be exposed to workshops on marine and environmental sciences, application technology, and communication skills. Be advised that this program will consist mainly of group work, as building products to be used by researchers is a collaborative endeavor. UVI undergraduate students who have completed no more than 30 credits are eligible for this program.
